The Two in One Square - Free Crochet Granny Square Pattern!

Two crochet granny squares

Hi everyone and welcome to another granny square that I am releasing for Granny Square Day 2024. If you have not heard of Granny Square Day, it is an online event which is hosted by @simplycrochetmag on their Instagram account. It’s a day where we all come together and take a picture of our granny squares, crop them so they fill the screen and create a huge virtual online blanket. Be sure to use the hashtag #grannysquareday2024 to join in!

If you would like to read more about it, there is more detailed information through the link below https://www.gathered.how/knitting-and-crochet/crochet/granny-square-day

Tools

·         Any yarn – I used DK Acrylic (any brand – I used scraps) Roughly 22g

·         Any hook – I used a 5mm hook

·         Tapestry needle – for weaving in ends

·         Scissors

Notes

·         Ch4, Ch3 and Ch2 counts as a st.

·         Ch1 does not count as a st.

·         If you would prefer to start your round with a standing st, then that is fine.

·         I changed colour every round – this is optional.

·         Weave in ends as you go!

A crochet granny square

My finished squares after blocking measured 21cm x 21cm. This was achieved by using a 5mm hook and DK acrylic yarn scraps.

This pattern contains two granny squares. One round is crafted with a slight variation from the other, and as I loved both of them, I decided to incorporate both designs in this pattern. Separate instructions will be provided for each pattern, named Square One and Square Two, to form The Two in One Square!

Square One

You will be working on the RS throughout the pattern and will need to fasten off after every round. This will stop when you get to the final 2 rounds as you will be squaring off with the Granny Stitch.
